Tiger of the week went to Gavin Agnew. Gavin is 13-2 this season; both lose come from highly rank wrestlers. One lose was from Ohio Counties Jordan Woolen who is currently ranked 4th in the state of Kentucky and his other lose was from Benny Bradford who is currently ranked number 1 in the state of Alabama. This is Gavin’s 5th season with the tigers and he is currently ranked 11th in the state of Kentucky at the 171lb. weight class. Gavin continues to display mat awareness when he is wrestling and it definitely helps with the extremely tough weight class. In our region; Region 1 there is three of the top 15 from the state rankings. Gavin has faced 6 highly ranked opponents this year and is 4-2 when facing an opponent in the top 15. Gavin has plans to place if not win a title for the Tigers this year in the 171lb. weigh class.

Tiger of the Week

Tiger of the Week Tiger of the week is voted on by the coaches every week. The award is not intended for just champs but to the athlete displaying hard work, determination, and good sportsmanship.
  • Tiger of the week went to Matt Smith. This is Matt's second season with the Caldwell Co. Tigers. Last year Matt wrestled in the 103lb. weight class and done really well for us as a first year wrestler. Matt come up a little short making it to state last year; but is determined to be state bound this year and this weeks performance is nothing less of that: Matt finished the day 4-0 all by way of pin in the 119lb. weight class. Matt's total time on the mat was 2 minutes and 16 seconds; which is outstanding considering the fact that one full match is 6 minutes long. Matt's fastest pin of the day was in 15 seconds which tied the season record with another Tiger wrestler Channing Revelett our 215lb. wrestler.
Pictured above is Matt getting near fall before pinning a wrestler from Christian County.
