Regionals

Caldwell brings 5 of 9 to the state tournament. As a team we finished 8th; Union won the tournament and Ohio came in second. 6 of the 9 wrestlers made it to the semi-finals only one was able to advance into the finals; Gavin Agnew. In wrestle backs 4 of the 8 were able to advance to 3rd and 4th and are advancing to the state tournament. Individual results:

• 103 Kegan Agnew went 0-2 for the day losing to D. Sahms from Ft. Campbell in the first round and then losing a close 6-4 match to Apollo K. Hudson

• 112 Clay Revelett went 0-2 for the day losing to R. Friedrich from Calloway and A. Batts from UHA

• 119 Matt Smith went 2-2 for the day. Matt won first round against J. Duke from Daviess Co. 7-5 in overtime, which advance Matt to the semi-finals. Matt was unable to defeat Ohio Co. T. Boone and was forced to wrestle back for 3rd. Matt won his next round against J. Killebrew from Christian Co. 7-2, this win put Matt in the medal round for 3rd. Matt lost to E. Gagnon this round which put Matt in the 4th place spot and able to advance to the state tournament.

• 135 Dylan Hale went 3-1for the day finishing 3rd in the tournament and is advancing to state. Dylan pinned A. Jones from Christ Co. first round of the tournament in 1:39 seconds and advancing to the semi-finals of the tournament. Dylan lost a close 7-5 match in the semis. Dylan won third round by pin K. Bunch from Ohio Co. in 45 seconds which advanced him to the third and fourth place round. Dylan went on to take third by beating J. Wynne from Pad. 5-3.

• 160 Steven Lamb went 2-2 for the day finishing 5th in the tournament and is a alternate for the state tournament. Steven won a close first round match against Z. Shaw from Hoptown 13-12 which advanced Steven to the semi-finals of the regional tournamet. Steven fell short of making it to the finals when he lost to T. Buckman form Union Co. Steven took another hard defeat the next round against Daviess Co. C. Armstrong forcing Steven to wrestle back for 5th place. Steven finished the day with a win over Z. Shaw for 5th.

• 171 Gavin Agnew went 2-1 for the day finishing 2nd in the tournament and is advancing to the state. Gavin dominated the competition the first two rounds winning both matches by Tec. Fall. Gavin beat G. Lawson from Calloway 15-0 and J. Weigold from Hoptown 16-0. Gavin was unable to over come the number 3 ranked guy in the state in the 171lb weight class in the finals. Gavin lost 9-4 against J. Woolen.

• 189 Kyle Proffitt went 2-2 for the day Kyle had wins over K. Dwyer from Calloway (pin 54 sec.) and D. Bell from Christian 2-0. Kyle fell short of the finals during his semi-final match losing to D. Dillard 7-2 and Kyle lost in the 3rd and 4th place medal round to Apollo’s Z. John 3-2, finishing the day in 4th place and is advancing to the state tournament in the 189lbs. weight class.

• 215 Tanner Flynn went 2-2 for the day winning his first round against A. Smith from Hoptown 10-3. Tanner lost a close 5-3 match in the semi-finals against Christian Co.’s M. Payne, but was able to win by pin in 47 sec. the next round to advance into the 3rd and 4th place medal rounds. Tanner took another lose during this round against Calloway Co. M. Treadway which put Tanner in the 4th place spot and he will be advancing to the state tournament in the 215lb weight class.

• 285 Channing Revelett went 0-2 for the day losing to B. Hamiliton from Pad. and M. Bowlds from Apollo.

Over all the Caldwell Tigers had second place finish, third place finish, three fourth place finishes, and a fifth place finish.

Reminder:

-Youth wrestling camp sign ups will begin Feb. 24th & 26th in the middle school gym from 4-5:30 pm. Entry fee cost is $40. The camp is for youth that are in kindergarten through fifth grade and will begin the following week March 3, 2009 at 4 pm. Information of times and dates will be handed out when you sign up the participants.
