
Caldwell County’s Gavin Agnew place 8th at the 171lbs. weight class. Agnew won twice in the consolation bracket of the 171-pound weight class on Friday and beat Whitley County from Soloman Vanover Saturday morning during the fourth round of the consolations. Agnew, a junior, began the tournament on Thursday with a 16-0 win over Matt Lafollette of Bullitt Central. Agnew fell in the second round 8-5 to Brandon Barnett of Harrison County. Brandon would beat Agnew again during the 7th and 8th place finisher round 2-0. Agnew picked up two other wins during the tournament to finish the week 4-3 and those wins were over Taylor Menard of Oldham County 9-2 and Jordan Jones who he pinned in 2:59. Kyle Proffitt at 189, claimed a 5-3 decision over Apollo’s Zimi John but then fell 11-4 to Jordan Blakemore of Louisville Southern. That gave Proffitt, a 2-2 over all record for the week. Tanner Flynn went 1-2 at the tournament at the 215lbs. weight class. Flynn was pinned by Louisville Trinity’s Broc Messian in 23 seconds in the first round. Broc finished 6th in the 215lbs. weight class. Flynn got his first win over Keaton Hub of Lexington Dunbar in 2:25 but was eliminated by Andre Hearn of Seneca 6-3. Hearn finished in the top 8 of the 215lbs. weight class. Matt Smith and Dylan Hale both first year state qualifiers went 0-2 for the week. Matt lost to Alex of John Hardin and Tyler Lancaster of Eastern. Dylan lost to Matt Matheny of Trinity in his first match and then to Deshawn Barrow of Fern Creek. Top ten team scores: Trinity

- 79 total teams participated in the state tournament. I’m very pleased with the guys performances and look forward to seeing more from those that are returning to the program next year. Out of the 6 that qualified for the state tournament only 2 were seniors.
