- Gavin Agnew was Caldwell’s lone champion in its own Armstrong Tiger Classic on Saturday, going a perfect 4-0 to win the 171-pound weight class.
Caldwell placed sixth overall in the 12-team tournament at the CAB gym.
Agnew was the only Tiger matman to reach the finals. He started the day by pinning Jaylon Blanton of Calloway County, then pinned Stephen Kenworty of Louisville Eastern in 1:46. Agnew defeated Hunter Boroff of Eastern in the semifinals before decisioning Jonathan Mabry of Ravenwood, Tenn., 10-4 in the championship.
Caldwell also claimed one third place finish along with two fourth and two fifth-place showings.
- At 112, Chris Gilkey placed fourth, losing to Jack Finnegan of Ravenwood in the third-place match. Gilkey defeated Tim Lyle of Christian County in his opener before falling to Finnegan 5-2 in the second round. In the wrestlebacks, Gilkey pinned Caldwell’s A.J. Walls in 14 seconds, then decisioned J.J. Killebrew of Christian 13-9 before falling to Finnegan again.
- Also at 112, Walls won his first match over Ben Benavider of Louisville Eastern but was pinned by Chase Boone of Ohio County in 54 seconds in his next match. Walls then lost to Gilkey.
- Clay Revelett also wrestled at 112 for the Tigers. He was pinned by Nick Ringle of Ft. Campbell in 5:10 in his first match, but came back in the consolation round to defeat Brian Buckler of Ft. Campbell. Revelett then dropped his next match to Clint Singleton of Eastern by pin at 1:42.
- Kegan Agnew placed fifth at 119 pounds, going 3-2. He defeated Devanie Cumington of Trigg County 17-2 then pinned Matt Boyken of Ohio County by pin. Agnew was pinned in the semifinals by eventual champion Jacob Freeman of Ravenwood. He then lost to Kyle Keuhnhold of Ravenwood in the consolation round before beating Taylor Saturley of University Heights 5-4 in the fifth-place match.
- Joe Young finished fourth at 125 pounds. Young opened the tourney by pinning Garrett Davis of Trigg in 1:02. However, Young was pinned in 4:00 by Cameron Montgomery of University Heights in the next round. In the wrestlebacks, Young defeated Tanner Reynolds of Ravenwood before pinning Tyler Lancaster of Eastern in 1:30. In the third-place match, Young was defeated by Tyler Martin of Hopkinsville.
- Dillion Hale finished third at 130 pounds, going 3-1. After receiving a first round bye, Hale pinned Robert Bussell of Hopkinsville before falling to eventual champion Ryan Churchill of Ravenwood in the semifinals. Hale came back to defeat Colton Hall of UHA, then pinned J.O. Rupp of Eastern in 50 seconds in the third-place match.
- At 135, Matt Smith placed seventh. He defeated Jordan Cornett of Ravenwood in the opening round but was pinned by Sean McIntosh of Paducah Tilghman in 2:57 in the second round. Smith was pinned by Jake Fowler of Ravenwood in 3:53 in the wrestlebacks, but came back to pin Victor Genaro of Tilghman in 56 seconds in the seventh-place match.
- At 140, Joe Crowley was defeated twice, falling to Brian Ward of Ravenwood and D’Shon Fitzgerald of Tilghman.
- At 152, Ethan Bulger lost twice. He was defeated by David Chege of Ravenwood and Celeste Robi of Ft. Campbell.
- Also at 152, Michael Fisher dropped a pair of matches, falling by pin to Michael Kennedy of Ohio County in 5:38 and losing to Jone Smith of Ravenwood in the consolation bracket.
- Matt Bernhard defeated Shaun Spann of Calloway County in his first match at 160, but was then pinned by Christian County’s Jeron Trice in 2:34 in the second round. Bernhard was pinned in 40 seconds in the consolation bracket by Ken Clark of Eastern, then forfeited to Johalbert Guillen of Ft. Campbell in the seventh-place match.
- Dylan McGowan went 2-2 at 171. He was defeated by Richard Fergason of Ft. Campbell in the first round, but came back in the wrestlebacks to pin Zak Thompson of Tilghman in 54 seconds then pinned Dakota Duke of Calloway in 31 seconds. McGowan was pinned by Brandon Borneman in 4:45 in the ninth-place match.
- At 189, Noah Kennaday was defeated twice, falling to Evan Long of Ravenwood by pin and losing to Chase Biddle of Trigg by pin.
- Dominic Hephner went 1-2 at 215 pounds. He was pinned by Atoro Amaro of Eastern but came back to pin Austin Hendricks of Trigg in 32 seconds. Hephner was pinned by Justin Hargrove of Calloway in the ninth-place match.
- Derrek Day placed fifth at heavyweight. Day received a first round bye, then defeated Andrew Wright of Trigg. He was pinned by Marlon Pate of Christian in 1:01 in the semifinals. In the wrestlebacks, Day lost to Ronnie Wright of Ravenwood, then won the fifth-place match by forfeit over Andrew Whitlock of Eastern.
