Christian Co. Tour 2009/2010

A pair of second-place finishes highlighted Caldwell County’s day at the Toyota Of Hopkinsville Christian County Invitational wrestling tournament on Wednesday.

  • Dillion Hale at 130 pounds and Gavin Agnew at 171 each reached the finals of their respective weight classes before losing.

  • Caldwell, which had only six wrestlers in the varsity portion of this week’s wrestling action at Christian County, had two other matmen place. Chris Gilkey was sixth at 103 while Michael Fisher finished seventh at 152.

  • Hale, who drew a bye in the first round at 130, won twice before being pinned by Adrian Thomas of Clarksville Northeast in the championship match.

Hale pinned J.B. Parker of Montgomery Central in 2:41, then decisioned Zack Green of Ft. Campbell 5-0 in the semifinals. However, Thomas recorded a pin at 3:00 in the finals.

  • At 171, Agnew also received a first round bye, then pinned Christopher Oaks of Ft. Knox in 1:24 in his first match. Agnew decisioned Central Hardin’s James Shinault 11-5 in the semifinals, but then was pinned in 1:50 in the championship match by Miguel Robles of Kenwood.

  • Gilkey dropped his first match at 103. After getting a first round bye, Gilkey lost a 9-2 decision to Zack Heck of Central Hardin. Gilkey came back in the consolation round to pin Levi Weight of Ft. Knox in 1:33. He was then decisioned by Asa Odoms of Christian County 3-1, sending Gilkey to the fifth-place match. Gilkey was then decisioned by Donovan Roberts of Clarksville Northwest 10-2 to finish sixth.

  • At 152, Fisher regrouped after a first-round loss to win his next two matches and finish seventh. Fisher was pinned by Mitchell Leroy of Ft. Knox in his opener, but came back to pin Payton Womack of Ft. Knox in 52 seconds in his next match. In the seventh-place match, Fisher pinned Stephen McCoy of Ft. Campbell in 30 seconds.

  • Also for the Tigers, Matt Smith went 1-2 at 135 pounds. Smith pinned Nicholas Cruz of West Creek in 1:04 in his first match, but was then pinned by Abraham Perez of Ft. Knox in 1:10. Smith was pinned in 3:21 by Jimmy Bosanko of Clarksville Northwest in the consolation round.

  • At 112, Clay Revelett dropped a pair of matches. Revelett was pinned by Brodie Cutshall of Ft. Knox in 1:52, then was decisioned by Tyler Hodge of West Creek 17-2.

Central Hardin placed first in the team competition, winning three weight classes.

Caldwell had three champions in the middle school tournament, which was contested Tuesday at Christian County High School.

  • Chris Gilkey at 103, Kegan Agnew at 124 and Dominic Hephner at 230 all won their weight classes.

  • Gilkey, who drew a first round bye, pinned Clay Cook of Richview and Robert Samborski of Iron Knights, then decisioned Daniel Ingram of Trigg County in the championship.

  • Agnew won twice in his weight class after drawing a bye into the semifinals. He decisioned Lance Cooper of Christian County in his first match, then decisioned Christian Ricketson of Union County in the championship match.

  • Hephner also had to win just twice to take his weight class. He pinned Brian Carter of Union County in the semifinals, then pinned Tevin Toler of Christian County in the finals.

  • Clay Revelett turned in a 4-1 record on his way to placing third at 110.

Revelett pinned Tyler Freeman of Union County and Brandon Hall of Iron Knights in his first two matches before being pinned by eventual champion Robby Dezember of Union in the semifinals. Revelett came back to pin teammate A.J. Walls in the consolation bracket, then decisioned Jacon Beatty of Rossview in the third-place match.

  • Walls went 2-2 in the 110 class. He pinned Mike Robinson of Apollo in his opener before falling to Beatty. Walls pinned Allan D’allesandro of Richview in the consolation bracket before being pinned by Revelett just one round short of the third-place match.

  • Kaleb Hammons went 3-1 while placing third in the 70-pound class.

Hammons pinned Apollo’s Allen Thomas in his first match but then was pinned by eventual champion Bryce Sheffer of Union in the semifinals. Hammons bounced back in the consolation bracket to decision Chase Hogan of Union, then decisioned Chase Samborski of Iron Knights in the third-place match.

  • Dylan Gray went 2-2 at 89 pounds and just missed placing in the top four.

Gray pinned Myles Roach of Ohio County, then decisioned Jakquez Seales of Union to reach the semifinals. However, Gray was decisioned by Caleb Austin of Christian in the semis, then was decisioned by Frolin Agulto of Christian in the consolation round, just one round from the third-place match.

  • Fabio Taylor split a pair of matches at 96 pounds. He was pinned by Jamie Reece of University Heights but came back to pin Travis Boner of Richview in the consolation round.

  • Terry Taylor was 1-2 at 103. He was pinned by Chase Hicks of Central Hardin, but came back to pin Maygan Reeves of Rossview before being pinned by Robert Samborski of Iron Knights.

In the junior varsity portion of the tournament on Tuesday, Caldwell’s Tevin Gray went 1-2 in the heavyweight ranks.

  • Gray pinned Daron McGregory of Christian County, but then dropped matches to Preston Knight of East Robertson and Andrew Craft of Clarksville Northwest.

  • At 135, Jon Crowley lost his only match to Isaac Mullis of Clarksville Northwest.
